Harmon’s Neighborhood Grocers – “Go For the Gold!” in March 2017

Join us as we “Go For The Gold!” in March every Friday and Saturday at local Harmon’s Grocery Stores and enjoy Root Beer Floats, a chance to meet your local Special Olympics Utah athletes, coaches and families, and the opportunity to support the spirit of competition that is Special Olympics Utah.

Each year during March, Harmons and Special Olympics Utah join forces to promote National Frozen Food Month as we “Go For The Gold!” Harmons donates a portion of frozen food sales during this time to Special Olympics Utah.

All funds raised during March go directly to Special Olympics Utah. These funds are used for year round sports training, competition participation, local and state events, as well as health and wellness programs and screenings. Money raised by individual teams during in-store weekly root beer float sales stays with those teams to help pay for their uniforms, equipment and travel expenses.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Since being founded in 1969, Special Olympics Utah helps special needs athletes live out their athletic dreams. The organization now promotes more than 2,200 athletes across the state. These amazing athletes compete throughout the year at 45 area level events and six state level events. Many end up competing nationally or internationally.

The Special Olympics mission remains as vital today as it did when the movement was founded in 1968. Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.

Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Our athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment — on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.

Join us in the spirit of competition! And enjoy a root beer float too!
