The 2026 Special Olympics Utah Summer Games are officially underway at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, and for the next three days, athletes, coaches, families, volunteers, Law Enforcement Torch Run officers, Unified partners, and fans from across Utah will come together to celebrate the power of sport, inclusion, and community.
This is more than competition.
It’s celebration.

And it’s one of the most inspiring weekends of the year.
What’s Happening at Summer Games 2026
Throughout the weekend, athletes from across the state will compete and shine in:
- Athletics (Track & Field)
- Soccer
- Swimming
- Healthy Athletes
- Olympic Town
- LETR Final Leg & Opening Ceremonies
- Athlete celebrations and special experiences
- Movie Night at SUU Stadium
From the roar of the crowd during Opening Ceremonies to the final medal presentations on Saturday, Summer Games is filled with moments that remind us what inclusion looks like in action.
Whether it’s crossing a finish line, scoring a goal, earning a medal, lighting the cauldron, reconnecting with friends, or cheering from the stands — every moment matters.
Thursday, May 28: Opening Ceremonies + Final Leg
Today, delegations from across Utah arrive in Cedar City as the 2026 Summer Games officially begin.
The evening includes the Tailgate Party, the Parade of Athletes, the SOUT University Graduation Celebration, and one of the most powerful traditions in Special Olympics Utah — the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg and Lighting of the Cauldron.
With athletes, officers, families, volunteers, and community members coming together inside Eccles Coliseum, Opening Ceremonies marks the official start of an unforgettable weekend celebrating athletes of ALL abilities.
Friday, May 29:Competition Day + Olympic Town
Friday brings a full day of action across the Southern Utah University campus, including:
- Athletics (Track & Field)
- Soccer
- Swimming
- Healthy Athletes
- Olympic Town
- Athlete and Family Experiences
- Evening Movie Night at the Stadium
From competition venues to Olympic Town, the campus will be filled with energy, celebration, high-fives, dancing, and memories in the making.
Saturday, May 30
Championship Moments + Farewell
The final day of Summer Games features championship competition, final awards, celebrations, and one last opportunity for athletes and supporters to come together before delegations head home.
By the end of the weekend, thousands of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and fans will leave Cedar City carrying medals, friendships, memories, and moments that last far beyond the Games themselves.
